Ag fágáil slán le Rang 7 / Saying farewell to Rang 7

31st May 2020

The past ten weeks have been tough on all our pupils, as they have missed the school routine, the relationship with their teachers and most importantly the social interaction with their class-mates & friends throughout the school.

But for our Rang 7 pupils, it is particularly poignant as it has robbed them of the opportunity to celebrate their seven years here with us at Gaelscoil Aodha Rua. We should be planning our annual graduation, end of year trips and of course our much awaited overnight residential to 'An Ghaeltacht'. And although we pledge to re-create these events at a later stage of the year, we want to make the month of June 2020 a special month for our Rang 7 pupils, to celebrate all their achievements in our school.

Rang 7 pupils play such a big part in the life of our school! They are fantastic role-models for our younger children and can often be seen speaking Irish with the little ones, or sorting out the trials & tribulations of the younger children in the yard. It has been our greatest pleasure and privilege to watch the children in Rang 7 grow & develop into the fine young people that they have become and I have no doubt that they will be fabulous ambassadors for Gaelscoil Aodha Rua in their new schools.

We have a number of celebratory activities planned for Rang 7 (details will follow), but we will begin tomorrow with 'Maratón Mhí an Mheithimh' (Marathon in a Month).  Each child in Rang 7 (and their families) will walk / run a mile per day, for 26 days in June - essentially walking a marathon inside a month. Although they will each be walking their own individual marathon, we want them to know that all their class-mates are walking / running it with them - their final acomplishment as a class in Gaelscoil Aodha Rua!

Múinteoir Seán and myself will also take part and we want to extend the invitation to all families in the school to join in the marathon, in moral support of Rang 7 and to bid them a final farewell!  If you and your family wish to take part in our school marathon & pay tribute to our wonderful Rang 7 class of 2020, please register your name on the school facebook page. All families are asked to post a photo of themselves starting their first mile tomorrow.
